Winston-Salem, NC – In a special partnership with the Weatherspoon Art Museum and radio station WUAG 103.1 FM, the Revolve Film and Music Festival is proud to present free summer events centered around the Weatherspoon’s Andy Warhol Exhibition.

Candy's career took her through the raucous and revolutionary Off-off-Broadway theater scene and into Andy Warhol's legendary Factory. Not rated, 85 minutes.

The band Rough Hands will play music immediately following the film.  Admission is free, with complimentary beverages and refreshments. A small $5 donation is suggested, to help support museum education programs.

Revolve Film and Music Festival presents NC Premiere of "D TOUR"

Winston-Salem, NC – In a special partnership with the Salem Committee on Cultural Events, the Revolve Film and Music Festival is proud to present the NC Premiere of D TOUR, a new film from San Francisco filmmaker Jim Granato.

This unusual rock documentary follows the band Rogue Wave as they tour with their drummer Pat Spurgeon on dialysis. Compelling side stories emerge as Pat searches for a kidney donor under time pressure, as his one remaining kidney is failing.

"Revolve is proud to present this film about music, struggling, determination, perseverance, and healthcare. There is a lot to this movie, and we can see why it's getting a lot of attention at other festivals," said Revolve Festival Founder and Artistic Director Shalini Chatterjee.

D TOUR will screen at Drama Workshop, Salem Fine Arts Center, on January 21 at 7 PM on high-resolution digi beta. Featuring live performances from Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Nada Surf, Jon Vanderslice, The Moore Brothers and of course Rogue Wave. Running time is approximately 90 minutes.

Tickets are $5, and are available online at revolvefestival.com, with a 99 cent service fee, or $5 at the door day of show. Sponsored by the Salem Committee on Cultural Events; Salem personnel receive free admission.

Director's Statement:

Pat Spurgeon and I have been good friends for more than a decade. We have worked on music and film projects together in the past, but nothing quite like what D TOUR has become.

Before this project started I knew a little about Pat's history. I knew he had a kidney transplant in 1994 and that it was a huge undertaking, especially for a 25-year-old college student and aspiring musician. A few years later I befriended Pat and like many other organ recipients, he never really talked about it. Of course he carried on with his life, pursuing his goals like the rest of us. I never thought about how Pat would have to go through that again. And after the next transplant, he will have to go through it again… and again… for the rest of his life.

Pat found out in early 2006 that it was time to go down that road again. His 1994 transplanted kidney still had some function left but it was inevitable that he needed a new one. This time he more than just talked about it; he felt the urge to share his story with others.

Pat called me just before starting dialysis and asked if I wanted to make "a video" about his experience through this elaborate process. The "hook" was that he was to going stay with Rogue Wave and continue touring and performing on dialysis! Pat wanted to show others that may be in the same predicament that you can go through this, and live your life the way you want to. The original idea was to do a ten-minute piece that showed Pat going through dialysis, finding a donor and finally, a transplant. Almost three years later, I've ended up with about 80 hours of footage.

With the driving force of music behind him, Pat strives to share his exclusive outlook and experiences with an audience that may have not have had the opportunity to think about the importance of organ donation, and what one person goes through in dealing with a rigid health care system. I certainly learned a lot along the way.

-Jim Granato, Director & Producer, D TOUR

REVOLVE FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL, WEATHERSPOON ART MUSEUM, PRESENT NC PREMIERE OF "HERB AND DOROTHY"

Winston-Salem, NC – In a special partnership with the Weatherspoon Art Museum, the Revolve Film and Music Festival is proud to present a free screening of "Herb and Dorothy."

This art-collecting documentary by Megumi Sasaki tells the improbable but true story of Herb and Dorothy Vogel, a postal worker and librarian living in New York City. In the early 1960s, when little attention was paid to Minimalist and Conceptual Art, Herb and Dorothy quietly began purchasing the works of unknown artists. Devoting all of Herb's salary to buying art, and living on Dorothy's paycheck alone, they continued collecting artworks guided by two rules: the piece had to be affordable, and small enough to fit in their one-bedroom Manhattan apartment.

Thirty years on, the Vogels had managed to accumulate over 4,000 pieces. This film documents their history of collecting as well as their large donations to art museums.

"We are thrilled to be the North Carolina premiere venue for this film and to be able to partner again with the Revolve Film and Music Festival. The Vogels are special people, not only as collectors, but in their generosity to museums and the American public. This film is a wonderful tribute to them," said Ann Grimaldi, Curator of Education at the Weatherspoon.

"There are so many appealing aspects to this film. There's a lot of splashy color, because it is about an art collection, which is really fun. In fact, the physical backdrop—the artwork, crammed apartment, and cats—is as interesting as the story of the collection," said Festival Founder and Artistic Director Shalini Chatterjee.

"Herb and Dorothy" will screen at the Weatherspoon Art Museum Thursday, April 16 at 7 PM. The running time is 91 minutes; the format is high-resolution digi beta.

The Weatherspoon offers free, convenient parking. For directions, please see weatherspoon.uncg.edu

REVOLVE FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS POP MUSIC DOCUMENTARY
"THE WRECKING CREW"

Winston-Salem, NC – In a special partnership with the Salem College School of Music, the Revolve Film and Music Festival is pleased to present "The Wrecking Crew."

Director/Writer Denny Tedesco's chronicle of pop music's heyday delves back to the late 50s, the 60s and the 70s, an era of all night recording sessions in cramped rooms, when real musicianship was not only appreciated, it was demanded.

When a hit record was the desired result, there were no others to consider but The Wrecking Crew, a group of professional session musicians for hire who, as the film unveils, lent far more to these hit songs than mere instrumentation. The director tells their story through rare, historical footage and interviews with the group's members, along with testimonials from music giants Nancy Sinatra, Lou Adler, Dick Clark, Herb Alpert, Glen Campbell, Cher, Brian Wilson, Jimmy Webb, Roger McGuinn, and Gary Lewis, among many others.

"This film is made by the late, great guitarist Tommy Tedesco's son, which shines a personal light on an already compelling subject," said Festival Founder and Artistic Director Shalini Chatterjee.

"Any fan of 60's music is sure to enjoy this behind-the scenes story of the closely knit musicians responsible for many of the chart tipping hits of this era," said Ginger Hendricks, Director of the Center for Women Writers and Coordinator of Cultural Events at Salem College.

"The Wrecking Crew" will screen at the Drama Workshop, Salem Fine Arts Center, on Feb. 28 at 7 PM. Join us for a post-screening reception at nearby Meridian Restaurant, 411 S. Marshall St. Filmgoers will receive badges at the door for drink specials at Meridian.

Salem College provides free, safe parking. Find directions at www.salem.edu. Salem College students, faculty and staff receive free admission. Please present Salem I.D. at box office. Tickets are available online for $8 (plus $1.12 service fee) at revolvefestival.com and $10 at the door, day of show. The Box Office opens at 6 PM.
